On June 12, 2016, 49 people lost their lives in the deadliest mass shooting by a single gunman in Orlando’s LGBTQ Pulse Nightclub. To remember and honor the victims of the shooting, the Human Rights Campaign enlisted 49 celebrities and Emmy-winning producer Ryan Murphy to create a tribute video.
During the 18-minute film, celebrities such as Lady Gaga,Chris Pine, Sofia Vergara, John Stamos, Kathy Bates andKerry Washington speak about each of the victims, sharing their stories, all of which were tragically cut short. Each person is individually named and spoken about during the film.
“The hate that stole these 49 individuals from all those who loved them has been allowed to flourish in our country for too long,” Murphy said, according to PEOPLE. “No person is born hating another, and we have an obligation as Americans to stand up against prejudice and bigotry that would incite violence against someone simply for who they are.”
